ICANN has announced a new assignment method for new generic top level domains (gTLDs). This new development will allow even company or product names to be registered as top level domains (TLDs). With this new method, domain names such as PRODUCT.COMPANYNAME or BUY.PRODUCT or MEMBER.COMMUNITY will be possible.
Currently the start date for accepting applications is not definite. It is expected that applications will be possible after 2011.
