New Timeline for the TLD Application Process
2012-05-30 | Julia Zang
ICANN has finalized dates for the new gTLD Reveal Day, the Batching process and the initial evaluation start. The Application System (TAS) will close today.
In its recently published update, ICANN has presented a schedule for the application review process. Therefore, the Reveal Day, when ICANN will release the entire list of applicants and the TLDs they applied for, will be June 13, 2012. The Batching process will take place from June 8 to June 28, 2012 and its results will be announced on July 11, 2012. After all, the initial evaluations should start on July 12, 2012.
The new gTLD process has been delayed, because the TAS was taken down on April 12, shortly before the application process should end. Due to a software glitch several applicants were able to view file names belonging to other applicants.
To this day, 500 invalid applications are still in the TAS, i.e. the applicants haven’t yet completed the applications or haven’t paid for them yet. Today, the TAS will close at 23:59 UTC.
