ICANN: Maximum of new generic top level domains will be 1,409

With a total of 1,930 applications received at ICANN, there are 230 strings in direct contention by several applicants. 751 applications compete for those 230 strings. In consequence, the bottom line is a maximum of 1,409 new gTLDs.
In anticipation of the Reveal Day ICANN commented on facts about the new gTLD applications. There were a total of 1,930 applications: 1846 of those are 'standard' applications for generic TLDs, 84 are 'community-based' domain extensions such as .IMMO, 66 are self-designated geographic name applications and 116 are applications for IDN extensions in non-Latin scripts.
Applications from 60 countries are in the application process. According to ICANN' definition of the world regions 911 applications are from North America, 675 from Europe, 303 from the Asia-Pacific region, 24 from Latin America and the Caribbean and 17 from Africa.
The Reveal Day Event in London will start at 2:00 PM CEST and will be broadcasted on http://www.icann.org/en/news/press/kits/reveal-day-video-13jun12-en.htm. ICANN will then reveal a list of every application.
