gTLD Multiple Applications – .APP leads the list

According to ICANN's list of all new gTLD applications,.APP,.HOME and .INC are the most sought-after gTLDs. Thirteen companies applied for .APP, among them Amazon.com and Google. Respectively, 11 applicants are interested in .HOME and .INC.

Even before its press conference yesterday, ICANN announced that there are multiple applications for 230 gTLD. 751 applicants seek these 230 strings. Besides the above mentioned gTLDs, there are inter alia multiple applications for .ART (10 applications), .SHOP (9), .BLOG (9), .BOOK (9), .DESIGN (8), .MOVIE (8), .MUSIC (8), .STORE (7), .LOVE (7), .CLOUD (7)and .NEWS (7).

Surprisingly, several famous brands such as Coca-Cola, Porsche and Adidas did not apply for their own gTLD. It is also interesting that both the social media platforms Facebook and Twitter as well as the online auction site eBay abstained from applying for a new gTLD. More than 600 top brands such as Nike, BMW and McDonald's applied for its own .BRAND TLD.
