David Goldstein - Digital Future the Focus of 2018 Domain Pulse in Munich

    15.01.2018

The New Year means the Domain Pulse conference is just around the corner, with the 2018 event to be held in Munich on 22 and 23 February at BMW Welt Munich in the heart of the "Munich Digital Hub". Domain Pulse is the annual free conference for the German-speaking domain name industry with a cross-section of people from across Europe from registries, registrars, business and domain investors.

This year’s event is hosted by DENIC, the .de manager, and has a focus on the digital future as well as domain names. Presentations are in either German or English, with most (if not all) presentations translated into English or German. The annual conference rotates between Germany, Switzerland (SWITCH) and Austria (nic.at).

Presentations commence on Thursday morning with a keynote on “Digital Enlightenment - Enlightened Digitisation: From Naivety to Humanity in the Digital World” by Matthias Horx, trend researcher and futurologist, from the zukunftsInstitut. Other subjects for Thursday presentations include the Internet of Things and their impact on the domain industry, smart mobility, terrorism, privacy and security in the digital space, authentication by domain and the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation.

Friday’s programme kicks off with a presentation by Wolfgang Kleinwächter on internet governance, registry positions in the notice and takedown debate, how registries are dealing with slowing growth in domain name registrations and an update on what has been happening at DENIC, SWITCH and nic.at over the last 12 months, and a look into the future.
