Good news for all those who have not yet converted their Sunrise B blocks: The deadline has been extended one more time. More details about the terms of this extension will be published in the coming weeks, currently it is only known that Sunrise B blocks are not scheduled to expire until the end of the second quarter of 2022.
This extension gives rights holders more time to maintain protection of their brand.
The Sunrise B blocks could be registered more than 10 years ago to prevent third-party registrations under .xxx. Therefore, it is not easy today to get an overview of what happened during that time.
After the introduction of three more extensions for adult content (.porn, .sex and .adult), the registry worked on a new, more suitable product: the AdultBlock. Since its introduction, several changes have taken place. These have taken into account the changes in Internet usage by the public and also by cybersquatters. BrandShelter, as an accredited registrar and registry partner, has been closely following these changes and keeping you up to date with articles and webinars.
Originally, these Sunrises B blocks were scheduled to expire on December 1. Domain name holders registered during Sunrise B of .XXX then had until December 1, 2021 to apply for registration of an Adult Block (classic or its "+" version) for the domains blocked in Sunrise B, based on the priority right acquired in 2011.
However, the cancellation procedure was postponed, giving the holders a grace period until January 15, 2022. On that date, all domain names corresponding to Sunrises B blocks should be made available for registrations.
The registry of the original project was the company ICM Registry. The latter decided that the Sunrise B blocks should have a minimum validity period of 10 years.
A few years ago, the registry was bought by the company "Minds and Machine", which then sold all its extensions and products to the GoDaddy group a few months ago.
After the registry received numerous registration requests from several players, GoDaddy decided to reconsider its policy and extend the priority registration period for Sunrise B block holders.
Any owner of a right (trademark, company name, etc.) has the possibility to apply for the registration of an AdultBlock (classic or in the "+" version) without having to resort to a Sunrise B block.
Conversely, any interested person can also apply to register a name under one of the four extensions, either for defense purposes or to use it in relation to the target market.
