Afilias has announced an additional 15 of their top-level domains are now available for registration to Chinese individuals and businesses, taking the total to 20 that are now available.
The approval by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) means millions of Chinese businesses and other registrants are able to host domain names within China using these additional 15 TLDs.
In 2017 Afilias became one of the first western registry operators to be licensed for in-country operations by China’s MIIT with the approval of .info, .mobi, .pro, .red, and .kim. By 2018, nearly 2 million domain names in these Afilias TLDs were registered to Chinese registrants.
Afilias operates and/or provides registry services to 20 new gTLDs, in addition to legacy gTLDs and ccTLDs. Of their new gTLDs, the largest is .red with 31,250 registrations followed by .bet with 20,940. They also have a Chinese language gTLD - .移动 (.mobile).
