After some months and 5 rounds of consultations, New Zealand’s ccTLD .nz will begin to offer Whois privacy for individual registrants from 28 November 2017.
On 28 November, the New Zealand Registry Service will have the changes implemented in the SRS and registrars will be able to offer individual registrants the privacy option but it will not be mandatory until 28 March 2018 when all registrars will be required to comply with the policy change.
The change means that for individuals, if they choose to do so under the Registrant Privacy Option, their telephone and contact address information won’t be visible when somebody does a domain name registration data query.
The policy body for .nz, the Domain Name Commission, is currently developing detailed guides and FAQs for the current pre-implementation phase and again after implementation.
